French singer Tonton David has died aged 53

French singer Tonton David has passed away today at the age of 53. It was the artists Nuttea and Pierpoljak who announced the sad news on social networks. Nuttae uploaded on Instagram a photo montage of Uncle David with the mention "Rip my friend #tontondavid" while Pierpoljak made a short video to announce the death and say that he is completely devastated.

Tonton David was a pioneer of French reggae

Tonton David, whose real name is David Grammont, was a pioneer of French reggae. It was with his hit Everyone his way (theme song from the film Un Indien dans la ville) that we discovered him in Quebec. His album Go Tell Them released in 1994 was a huge success with 350 copies sold and earned him a nomination for the Victoires de la Musique
